The EW IV standard coaches were delivered to the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) from 1981 onwards and, with over 500 units, form one of the largest Swiss coach fleets. The coach body is constructed of lightweight welded steel. The coaches are very popular with passengers due to their spacious interior with face-to-face seating and their smooth running characteristics, even at high speeds. With various modernizations, the EW IV coaches are still in service practically throughout Switzerland today.
