The electric locomotives of the Ae 3/6ˡ series were procured in several orders from 1921 to 1929. Locomotive 10664 comes from the SLM and BBC workshops. Due to the long procurement time, technical innovations were also incorporated. This increased the power of the locomotives from 1,450 kW to 1,600 kW. Thanks to the good running characteristics, the top speed could also be increased. From 1929, the speed was increased from 90 km/h to 100 km/h, and for the more powerful locomotives (from No. 10637), in 1937, after adjustments to the bogie, to 110 km/h.
Locomotive 10664, built in 1926, was based in the Bern, Zurich, and Rorschach depots. From 1990 to 2010, it was in service as a historic traction vehicle for the "Eisenbahnfreunde Zürichsee Rechtes Ufer" (Friends of the Zurich Lake Right Bank). It remains a serviceable historic vehicle in the Rapperswil depot and is the property of the SBB Historical Heritage Foundation (SBB Historic).
