From 1977, the Deutsche Reichsbahn purchased 270 series locomotives of the 250 series (later BR 155) for heavy freight train service. By dispensing with streamlined curves, which are negligible at the low top speed, it was nicknamed the "power container" or "brick".
In 2017, Deutsche Bahn sold 100 locomotives to a consortium led by Railpool and Toshiba. The 155 138 was given a shiny silver coat by Railpool to attract attention. Some of the locomotives approved for use in Germany and Austria were offered for sale.
