The class 86 was a standard tender locomotive that was built in large numbers by numerous German locomotive factories for the Deutsche Reichsbahn. Some of these steam locomotives found themselves in Austria after the end of the war and were used in passenger and freight transport. One of the most spectacular operations was the tensioning of heavy ore trains in front of the 52 series. The machines were located, among others, at the boiler houses in Hieflau, Selzthal, Linz, Bischofhofen and St. Veit/Glan. The last locomotives were parked in 1972.
