A total of 257 locomotives of the 1042 series universal electric locomotive were built from 1963 onwards. From 1966, more powerful motors were installed to achieve a top speed of 150 km/h. These locomotives were designated as series 1042.5. The installation of a rheostatic brake gave them characteristic roof structures and reversed single-arm pantographs compared to the previously delivered locomotives. They were used for all types of trains, but mostly for fast passenger and freight trains, including cross-border services to Germany.
The 1042.687 was assembled at Simmering-Graz-Pauker in Graz under factory number 72815, while ELIN was responsible for the electrical components. After delivery in January 1977, it was based in Vienna-South.
Note: This model is a new item, created by overprinting certain details such as the running number and frame markings. The specific details are accurately reproduced according to the prototype. The models are offered at an attractive recommended retail price, as the overprinting may be visible to some extent.
