The history of the silver-painted locomotives of the type ES64U2 begins in 2000, although the first machine of this type was not built for the ÖBB became. In September of the same year, the Siemens works in Munich-Allach delivered a locomotive with the company number 1116 901.
Siemens decides to build some additional ES64U2 and ES64F machines, which are being built in large quantities for various customers at this point, as the basis for a pool for its new leasing activities. Siemens Dispolok GmbH is founded as an independent subsidiary to manage the locomotive pool. Hupac SA, one of the leading providers of intermodal rail transport through the Swiss Alps, was one of the first customers for the new Siemens pool and was able to have its locomotive painted in its own company colors.
In 2002, all three machines were converted for operation in Switzerland. The Swiss safety/signaling systems ZUB/Integra and pantographs with smaller contacts (1450 mm) were used, which are required for operation in the numerous Swiss tunnels.
All three machines are used in Germany and Switzerland for many different services, not only for the transport of Hupac convoys, but also for Hupac partners and other open access operators that need traction for a certain period of time
