In total, only 10 locomotives of the approximately 133 tonne tank locomotive were built for use on the so-called Höllentalbahn. The Class 85 locomotives were therefore the heaviest tank locomotives used in Germany. Due to their tractive power, the beefy-looking tank locomotives quickly proved their worth on the mountain route.
The photographic paint finish is a special paint job that locomotive manufacturers applied to special locomotive examples to achieve better representation in photos at the time. This consisted of washable (lime) paint and was applied only for the purpose of photographic work.
