The "Hispania Express" ran between Copenhagen from 1963, and from 1969 between Hamburg and Portbou. In Germany, it was operated from this point on as an accelerated express train with a maximum speed of 160 km/h, like only TEE and F/IC trains.
The train is being recreated for the 1976/77 timetable year, as the "Hispania" carried a particularly large number of 1st/2nd class carriages (ABüm) that year, the typical through carriages of the German Federal Railway. To achieve a speed of 160 km/h, the carriages, which also included some early examples in ocean blue/beige livery, required extensive retrofitting with magnetic track brakes.
