Car set with four express train carriages for the IC 511 “Chiemgau” of the German Federal Railway.

Consisting of one first-class compartment coach, type Avümz 111, and three second-class compartment coaches, type Bm 235.

With the conversion of the Intercity system for the summer timetable of 1979, under the slogan "Every hour – every class," one IC train pair was extended beyond Munich to Berchtesgaden. In the section south of Freilassing, the train was shortened to four passenger cars, with the original coaches from the middle of the train remaining in Freilassing. On the steep section to Berchtesgaden station, the Class 144.5 locomotive was initially the standard IC locomotive, later also the Class 111 and occasionally the Class 194.

The IC 511 "Chiemgau" Cologne – Berchtesgaden is recreated in its configuration from 1979 to 1982, as it operated south of Freilassing. It consisted of one air-conditioned first-class compartment car (Avmz 111) and three second-class compartment cars (Bm 235), all equipped with anti-sway devices and thus approved for speeds of up to 200 km/h due to the high-speed Augsburg–Munich section.

Between Intercity services to and from Cologne, the rolling stock was also used for local trains to and from Freilassing, sometimes including a few freight cars, which allowed for unusual train formations.

The Avmz 111 included in the set is a special highlight, being a unique piece. Built in 1974, it served as a test car for a new single-duct air conditioning system from the company Luwa, featuring electric auxiliary heating in the compartments. Because problems with the power supply were feared when used in DC networks, it was exceptionally built as a single-voltage car for 1000 V, 16 2/3 Hz, hence its unusual car number 19-94 070 (previously 19-73 070).

The Bm 235 cars come from the 1974 delivery series (with black side sills) and the 1976 series (with ocean-blue side sills), each still bearing the old class numbers and smoking/non-smoking markings.

EDITION FREILASSING:

Under the "Edition Freilassing" label, selected models from the former Freilassing locomotive depot are reproduced. In 1905, the first locomotives, then still steam locomotives, moved into the engine shed with its 20 tracks. Around 20 years later, the electric locomotive workshop was built, and further buildings followed in the subsequent years. ROCO also has a close connection to the Bavarian town of Freilassing, as its first German sales office was located there. Look forward to the models in this unique edition!
