The machines of the E 41/141 series were first delivered in 1956 for light mixed service on main and branch lines. They were the only series in the standard locomotive program to receive a switchgear on the low-voltage side of the transformer. The rear derailleur had a characteristic noise, which, in addition to the large jumps in traction, led to the nickname “firecracker”.
