Diesel locomotive 234 399 of Deutsche Bahn.
■ Variant in DR livery with DB AG logo
■ Operating condition: 1994 to 1998
■ Powerful, reliable model for prototypical long trains.
The locomotives of the 132 series (232, 233, 234 and 241) were imported from the Soviet Union to the GDR by the Voroshilovgrad locomotive factory starting in 1970 and put into service with the Deutsche Reichsbahn (East German State Railway).
Due to the decline in freight traffic after German reunification, a large number of these diesel locomotives became surplus. The locomotives of the 132 series (since January 1, 1992, BR 232) were gradually converted to the new 234 series, using the 140 km/h bogies of the retired 130 series. From 1994 onwards, they were used in InterRegio (IR) and InterCity (IC) services.
