In December 2004, the SBB sold locomotives Re 4/4 11110, 11117, 11119, 11123, 11137, and 11142 to the BLS, which renumbered them Re 420 501–506. A year later, locomotive 11107 and the prototypes Re 4/4 11102–11106 were also acquired from the SBB and renumbered 420 507–512. Because the locomotives were urgently needed, they initially ran in the SBB's basic livery. All coats of arms and chrome lettering were removed and replaced with simple silver stickers. Gradually, the Re 420 locomotives were repainted in the BLS corporate colors and, after the takeover of RM (Regional Mittellandbahn), also received the Omega logo. Re 420 505, formerly Re 4/4 11137, ran in green livery until 2009, before it too was repainted in the new BLS corporate colors.
